Question about White Gold Ring?
I currently have a 10k (I am very active so I chose the stronger ring) white gold engagement ring with an amethyst set in. Should I be taking the ring off at night, in the shower, exc? I have had no problems with it thus far so I haven't taken it off unless I am doing something damaging to it such as swimming, painting and so on. I REALLY don't like having to be without it for any length of time but I don't want to cause any damage to it that could be avoided.
Also, I did the same thing with my promise ring and I never had any problems but it was a sterling silver ring not white gold so I'm not sure how differently they need to be treated. Also thus far the white gold shows no signs that it needs to be redipped so I'm quite pleased with that. (Yay Zales!)
There will be no problem with the gold but the prongs or setting around the Amethyst may weaken from catching on sheets, pillows, etc while you sleep. I have an engagement ring that almost had a diamond fall out within a year of having it because of the gold area around it loosening from catching on things. I had them put prongs around the diamonds so that they would be better supported but after 10-20 years, these prongs could wear down, so I prefer to put mine safely in it's ring case at night. So far I haven't had any problems. If your fiance gives you a hard time about taking it off at night, saying you are 'unengaged', just let him know that it's so that you can keep the ring forever and enjoy it longer than if it gets messed up 
I am married now so fortunately I have a ring on my finger still but I still get jokes about being 'unengaged' when I take the ring off, lol. If you are not married yet, I imagine you will have a beautiful wedding to match your beautiful ring that will last a lifetime since you are taking time to make sure that you are properly caring for it!
