Frosting Devil

Quick...Help with home-made frosting...?

Made Devils food cupcakes and waiting to frost them.

Made a (no recipe) butter cream/cream cheese frosting, but it needs something.

My son thinks its delicious, but it seems to be a bit to cream cheesy tasting. Trying to appeal to the masses...Son has some friends over.

It consists of 1 stick of softened butter, 2/3 pkg of philly cream cheese, lots of confectioners sugar, 1/4 cup of milk and a splash of vanilla.

Want to avoid adding more confectioners if possible as it is the perfect sweetness...not sick sweet, like some well-known tubs they sell. But I do want to lessen the cream cheese taste.

I have lots of flavoring, and ingredients.

I also don't know what flavors go with devils food...I'm a vanilla girl!

Any suggestions?

Sounds like one of your objectives is that you do not want to make the frosting taste sweeter by putting in more confectioners sugar but you also say the cream cheese seems to be too powerful. Add in more confecitoners sugar, then add in a little bit of lemon juice. Just keep tasting the frosting until you like it. The lemon juice does a tricky thing to the taste buds and makes the frosting taste less sweet. A little bit of salt will do the same thing but I prefer using lemon juice.
